Project LAUNCH celebrates the success of Nevada County in moving forward with the implementation of the World Café model in their community!
Lindsay Dunckel, director of F5 Nevada and coordinator for the implementation of Project LAUNCH Family Cafés in Nevada County reports:
In November 2017, the first Family Café took place in Nevada County. It was advertised through partners and on Facebook where it had many shares and over 400 views. Five brave moms showed up, one from our Pop Up Café and two home visiting clients so they had 2 tables with our two table hosts. The focus of conversation was on the protective factor Social Connections.
Here’s what the “harvest” brought (participants’ comments):
“It takes a certain vulnerability to reach out to others.”
“When you are feeling most isolated, that’s when it’s hardest to reach out, and when you need it the most.”
“Boss your brain back!“ [this was captured from a longer comment from a mom who shared her struggles with depression and the work she has to do to override what her depressed brain is telling her].
“Be brave and persistent in looking to make connections – it takes time.”
“It’s like dating! Keep looking until you find your flock.”
“Everyone is feeling the same way – nervous and vulnerable.”
At the end, the moms in the group all spontaneously exchanged phone numbers and started a group text. This was just so “right on” about why we are doing this work, and such a good reminder to us to “be brave and persistent” in delivering this work.
